The everyday chaos and busyness of motherhood can interfere with taking care of ourselves. I don’t always have time or money to go out and get services at a spa, a girl can dream, though. I do a few simple things at home that make me feel pampered and have practical benefit as well. A little self care can go along way to maintaining ones sanity.
We all have our beauty routines. I’m a creature of habit, when it comes to maintenance. I tend to run on the same schedule without even intending to. My most recent beauty ritual has been a weekly reboot of sorts. See the details below…
Every other week, I clarify and deep condition my hair with Oribe products, The Cleanse shampoo and Essential Antidote Replenishing Deep Conditioner. The shampoo removes any residue or build up left behind my styling products, salt water, pool water, or well water. It leaves your hair squeaky clean, so you really to follow up with a nice rich moisturizing conditioner. It will smooth down the cuticle and make combing out much easier. Most lines make a clarifying shampoo and deep conditioner. I’ve posted on Some Maintenance Required‘s social media Quick Tip Tuesday about clarifying your hair with baking soda. Super easy!
Every week I exfoliate my face with fresh Soy Face Exfoliant, purchased at Woo Skincare & Cosmetics in Charlotte. It’s a fairly gentle physical exfoliant and I follow with a gentle cleanser to be sure I remove the grit from the product off of my face.
What is a physical exfoliant and why do I use it? There are two different types of exfoliants out there. Chemical exfoliant and physical exfoliant.
A physical exfoliant uses an ingredient, or a tool, that physically scrubs old, dead cells from the surface of your skin. There are many levels of performance, from very fine and gentle to very harsh. Think of sand paper and all the varieties. I use the fresh product because its finer and gentle for my sensitive skin.
A chemical exfoliant is an enzymatic ingredient is being used. These enzymes dissolve dead skin cells in place, helping our skin to speed up it’s cell turnover to reveal fresh, dewy, healthy looking skin. Think Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Glycolic acid, and fruit acids. These can be risky if you have sensitive skin or use any prescription skin medication like Retin A. A chemical peel with a trusted esthetician is a great way to use this product.
For the body, I’ve been using Blondie + Beast Relax Sugar Scrub. It smells fantastic and removes all the dead, flaky skin from my arms and legs. I love to use it before shaving my legs. I also use it before getting a spray tan. It’s a local Charlotte business and I love supporting a local Momma.
Being a busy Mom, it’s easy to put yourself last. Develop your own beauty ritual to keep things fresh. Something as simple as a 2 minute body scrub can restore your soul and give you a second of peace.
Until Next Time,
Amanda
